Die "Scheiße" kam von Sir-Tech. Ließ selbst (http://www.terravirtua.com/sqlboard/):

As the Demo 'Read me' has already stated, JA2 implements 16-bit DirectDraw calls. The only other title on
the market that does this is the upcoming 'Baldurs Gate' title. Numerous video cards, including most Matrox
and over half of the Diamond Stealth cards are phyically unable to process 16-bit DirectDraw calls with their
current drivers. In most cases, these cards will be able to adapt once new drivers that support these calls
are released. In certain rare but possible cases, your video card will require a BIOS update or ROM
replacement to support these calls. As more of these 16-bit DirectDraw titles are developed and released,
we can only hope that the various card companies will release new drivers. As such, we are not at fault with
the 'performance' of JA2 - no programming or DDK development on our end will make your video card
function with these calls. As it stands now, every other card manufacturer past & present support these
calls. If you do not own a Matrox MGA or Diamond Stealth card but are experiencing slow-downs with the
JA2 v1.0.0.6 Demo or Beta, chances are that your driver is not the most recent, or even certified for use with
your version of DirectX. Please refer to the JA2 Demo v1.0.0.6 Read Me file for additional assistance
regarding Video Card trouble-shooting.
